The Federal election has now been confirmed for Saturday 2 July 2016. All Australian citizens aged 18 years or over are required to enrol and vote in this election.
The deadline to enrol is 8pm Monday 23 May 2016 – so time is running out.
Enrolling for the first time has been made easy. Visit the Australian Electoral Commission’s web site http://aec.gov.au/enrol/ and click on the ‘enrol online’ button.
You will need to provide evidence of your identity. You can use your driver’s licence, Australian passport number, or have someone who is enrolled confirm your identity. Please note that the AEC cannot accept any other forms of identification, such as 18+ or Proof of Age cards.
You are eligible to enrol if you:
- are an Australian citizen, or eligible British subject
- aged 18 years and over, and
- have lived at your address for at least one month.
If you are 17 and will turn 18 before July 2, you can enroll now so you’ll be able to vote.
