Congratulations to our own Doctor of Philosophy, Mary Nash, who last night received her Doctorate from La Trobe University. It’s the culmination of many years of hard work and resilience after her studies were interrupted midway through by serious illness.

The title of Mary’s thesis is ‘The Role of Structured Play Activities in Learning Senior Secondary Biology Concepts’. Mary’s research saw her study the use of generic artefacts by senior secondary students to construct representations of concepts in biology. She found that student motivation and engagement in learning are enhanced, academic performance is improved, and there are long-term benefits for the durability of student’s learning for examinations.

Well done, Mary. The BSSC community is proud of your achievements.
