Craig James, Chief Economist for Commsec, visited BSSC on Wednesday afternoon to speak to business students. His talk ranged from a brief assessment of US economy, to Australian issues and a review of the situation in Bendigo. Areas of consideration included employment, home affordability, wages, inflation, currency and the sharemarket.

He advised students to keep the following on their radars: Trump, Oil prices, the upcoming European elections, the US Federal Reserve, and home prices. According to Craig, the forecasts for 2017 are small improvements in growth, steady inflation and a small reduction in unemployment.

Students asked numerous questions that included the impact of the new US president on our economy and Craig’s advice about young people buying shares.
