The college was incredibly privileged today to have John Maher return to BSSC to share his powerful road safety message with students.

In 1993, at the age of 42, John was seriously injured in a car crash when an 18-year-old driver lost control of her vehicle and rolled into the path of his car. Just two years later, John’s youngest daughter Carmen was killed in a crash after falling asleep at the wheel of her car.

John urged students to be the safest drivers they can possibly be.

“Don’t put your families, your friends, your school, through what we’ve experienced,” he said. “Go home tonight and give your parents the biggest cuddle in the world… tell them how much you love them.

“Carmen is our family’s gift to you.”
