BSSC’s music students will perform alongside the internationally renowned Australian Tuba Quartet at the annual Mid-Winter Concert on Wednesday June 22 in the Ulumbarra Theatre.

“Second only to the Musician of the Year concert, the Mid-Winter Concert is a significant event on the BSSC calendar,” Music Coordinator Matt Pankhurst said.

“This year, Year 12 students will impress the audience with ensemble performances and a solo piece from each.  In the second half of the program, the audience will be treated to an international quality performance from four sensational guest artists who make up the Australian Tuba Quartet.”

As well as performing, the Australian Tuba Quartet musicians will critique the student performances.  The quartet features  former BSSC student Dr Matthew Van Emmerik and Tim Buzbee  the principal tubist of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

Music teacher Matt Pankhurst said the students were excited to perform in the new venue.

“For the first time we are selling tickets and massively expanding our concert to showcase just how talented these young musicians are. The students have been rehearsing for months and are thrilled to be performing at Ulumbarra with its magnificent acoustics.”

This is a public event and everyone is invited to attend.
