More than 1860 students attended ‘Blast Off‘ week heralding the start of the 2017 BSSC school year. With school photos done, personal interviews with student advisors completed, the first day of classes began with house assemblies held in the magnificent Ulumbarra Theatre.

Whether it was the beginning of a student’s Senior School journey or the business-end of 13 years of education, this day marked a fresh start and much encouragement to students to grasp the incredible educational and extra-curricular opportunities BSSC has to offer.

Assistant Principals delivered a message from Dale Pearce, acknowledged being on Dja Dja Wurrung Country, and amidst the general information and advice to all newcomers, urged students to utilise the multiple communication platforms that are available to keep them up to date with their own personal agenda and the wider school community.

Linda Lyons invited all those with phones to ‘Like’ the BSSC facebook page seeking to break all previous ‘Like’ records. If you haven’t already, GET ON BOARD!

Mark Lau formally welcomed all students. Meredith Fettling spoke about opportunities: “You are here to maximise success. It is our role to help you to succeed in the adult community,”

The formalities over, the auditorium rocked to the fabulous voice of Maddie O’Connor who belted out Gnarls Barkley’s ‘Crazy’ brilliantly accompanied by Abby Sloss on guitar and Rory Day who didn’t miss a beat on drums.

Over the coming week there will be a range of activities starting with a welcome barbecue lunch on Monday 6 February. On Wednesday and Friday awesome games from The Zone, will include archery, a giant slide, inflatable meltdown and other games with spot prizes.
