“Let’s face the facts and do something about it!”

This is the call-out from the National Youth Commission which is holding an enquiry into youth unemployment and transitions.

Australian youth unemployment rates hit 13% in 2017—double 2008 rates. In real numbers this means that 650,000 Australians, aged 15-24 years, are unemployed or underemployed. This is a despite a marked increase in young Australians completing uni.

NYC is essentially a ‘citizen’s royal commission’ that will focus on issues around school retention, transition to work/study/training, and how government can make a difference.

NYC is seeking applications from young people aged 15-25 years who are interested in becoming a Youth Commissioner, Ambassador, or member of their Youth Advisory group. So if you want to have a say on these important youth issues you can find out more at:  www.yda.org.au

Or contact BSSC’s Student Leadership Coordinator, Travis Matheson: matheson.travis@bssc.edu.au

Applications close Friday 24 November 2017.
