Congratulations to Year 12 student Allira Walker who is the recipient of the 2019 Eaglehawk Dahlia and Arts Youth Scholarship.

Allira is a young aspiring artist who is currently studying VCE Studio Arts and VET Allied Health at Bendigo Senior Secondary College in the hope of becoming a qualified Art Therapist.

Her dream of becoming an Art Therapist comes from a love of art and joy in helping others. She sees art as a form of relaxation and believes that others can benefit from participation in visual and performing arts.

Dancing has been a big part of Allira’s life as she began lessons at four years of age and only stopped when she broke her leg two years ago (she has just commenced dancing again!).

Allira is a member of the Bendigo BMX Club in Eaglehawk and uses her artistic creativity to produce Christmas cards for the club. She wants to learn how to coach so she can volunteer at the BMX club in the future.

As an Eaglehawk Secondary College student, Allira designed several banners for the college and was a member of the 3556 Magazine for which she won a leadership award. Allira was also awarded the Hessi Year 10 Outstanding Artist of the Year and has exhibited her artwork in the Bendigo Rotary Easter Show and was commissioned to produce a work for Bendigo’s Young Artist program.

She will use the funds obtained in this scholarship to complete her Year 12 art studies, attend extra-curricular artistic opportunities and purchase high-quality art supplies to create meaningful and enduring works of art.
