Our BSSC footballers were privileged on Wednesday afternoon to spend an hour with Neil Connell, Player Welfare Manager for the North Melbourne Football Club.
Neil talked to the boys about the unique challenges faced by young men when drafted into the AFL system, having had first-hand experience working with Kangaroo stars such as Andrew Swallow, Jack Ziebell, Ben Cunnington, Sam Gibson and Todd Goldstein since they were draftees.
Neil was able to paint a picture for our boys of life as a newly drafted player – the pressures, responsibilities and everyday expectations of walking into an AFL club.
The students had plenty of questions and gained valuable insight into what Neil described as a tough industry.
The college is grateful to Neil for his efforts in travelling to Bendigo talking so openly with our potential AFL footballers.
