Twelve students from the BSSC Specialist Arts program headed to Melbourne today to get a first-hand glimpse of the contemporary art scene. The students visited the Melbourne Art Fair, where 40 leading galleries from across Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia showcase the newest and most exciting contemporary artists of the region.

For Unit 3-4 students, the Melbourne Art Fair is an important part of exam preparation as it expands their knowledge of different contemporary art styles and offers the chance to compare and analyse challenging artworks.

A highlight of the trip was seeing the work of sculptor Ronnie van Hout. His piece ‘Surrender’, (pictured here) featuring two sculptures, was recently commissioned by the Bendigo Art Gallery and will become part of the permanent collection after the Melbourne Art Fair.
