BSSC Year 11 student, Dylan Rooney—currently studying a VET Certificate II in Kitchen Operations (Cookery) and Food Studies—recently completed a week of Structured Workplace Learning at the Golden Square Hotel.

Throughout the week Dylan worked different shifts alongside the food service and kitchen team, supporting the chefs with a wide range of preparation tasks.

He gained experience in prepping ingredients, maintaining kitchen operations, and even creating desserts for service.

At every stage, he demonstrated his understanding of Food Safety and Hygiene practices, as well as safe work procedures in a busy hospitality environment.

Dylan particularly enjoyed the opportunity to develop his cooking skills in a professional kitchen.

“It has been very enjoyable; I love being in the kitchen and cooking. All the staff have been really friendly and this experience has confirmed that this is the career for me,” he said.
