BSSC Year 12 student, Archie Lauder, recently completed a week of Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) with Yarrawonga Manufactured Housing (YMH), where he gained exposure to the construction and modular housing industry.
Archie is currently completing a Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate II in Building and Construction, so he was able to apply many of the practical skills and knowledge developed through his studies in a real workplace setting.
He was exposed to a range of tasks during the placement—assisting with measuring and fitting window arcs, preparing foundations, and carrying out basic fixing work such as skirting boards. The YMH team gave Archie many opportunities to develop his confidence using a variety of hand tools, while following safe workplace practices on site.
Archie did BSSC proud; demonstrating a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn from the experts. This valuable SWL experience provided insight into the building and construction industry and allowed him to strengthen both his practical skills and understanding of workplace expectations.
