BSSC Year 11 student, Rylee Greenshields, recently spent a week of Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) with Franklin & Walsh Builders.
Working on the refurbishment of Eaglehawk’s Community Health hub has given Rylee valuable insight into commercial building.
As well as being taught new skills on the job, the work placement helped enhance expertise already gained through VET Building & Construction at BSSC.
Rylee also enjoyed the opportunity to be part of the team, contribute to the project and apply all he’s learnt.
“There’s a lot going on with this build,” says Rylee, “everything from planning, carpentry, form work, concreting, scaffolding, and finishing off. Also, working in with the other trades who are onsite.”
Rylee intends to complete Year 12 next year and possibly undertake another SWL opportunity. Once he finishes school, he will pursue an apprenticeship in Building and Construction.
