Year 12 student, Jamison Friswell, recently completed a week of Structured Workplace Learning with SEF Services, a construction company that specialises in the ‘outdoor scope’ on commercial projects all over Victoria.
During the week, Jamison was involved in a variety of hands-on tasks, both in the work shed and out on site.
He painted stakes for fencing, cut steel to size, and prepared post holes ready for use. He also contributed to general site cleaning and maintenance, supporting the smooth progress of projects.
The physically demanding nature of the work meant Jamison’s fitness and endurance skills were an important part of his ability to complete tasks efficiently and safely—skills that he has developed through his VET Sport and Recreation studies at BSSC.
Jamison consistently followed OHS requirements, used equipment responsibly, and worked well alongside the team—all contributing to a great week of work placement at SEF Services.
“I enjoyed the chance to be part of real projects and see how much teamwork and fitness matter on a construction site,” he says. “Doing SWL has given me a better idea of where my skills could take me in the future.”
