NETBALL (BOYS) – SSV STATE FINALS
The BSSC boys netball team finished in the top four at this week’s SSV State Finals. They started with a win (17-16 against Geelong HS) and a loss (12-13 against Gladstone Park SC) in their first two round-robin games. This left them with the task of having to defeat Box Hill HS in the final round-robin game to secure a place in the last four (semi-finals). They led Box Hill from start to finish for a 17-12 win. This put them into the semi-final against McKinnon SC. After leading for the first three quarters, the BSSC boys eventually went down 14-20 to finish the day in equal third place. Our boys were the only team on the day to defeat the eventual champions, Box Hill. Fantastic effort from all team members – Kai Daniels, Trent Leech, Julian Langtree, Isaac Murphy, Dylan McCauley, Maxi Shanahan, Hayden Parrott, Jack Merrin, and coaches Kara Fox, Tia Reaper, Kayla Ashcroft, Charlotte Crook, and Riley Bouwmeester.
SOCCER (GIRLS) – SSV STATE FINALS
The BSSC girls soccer team secured a top four finish at this week’s SSV State Finals. It was only goal difference that prevented them from playing off for the gold medal. In their round-robin games, they had a 2-2 draw with the eventual champions, Lakeview SC (goals to Caitlin O’Bryan and Shae Powney), a 1-0 win against John Faulkner SC (Caitlyn O’Bryan), and a 6-0 win against Mount Waverley SC (Caitlin O’Bryan 2, Jess Keating 2, Tara Archbold 2). The results left them equal on points with Lakeview, but Lakeview progressed to the final on a superior goal difference. Fantastic achievement from team members Jade Moule, Letesha Bawden, Sharni Barker, Lauren White, Shae Powney, Maddy McGrory, Kayla Nichols, Jess Keating, Caitlin O’Bryan, Lauren Harris, Tara Archbold, Nathalie Betts, Bree Heiden, Maddy Amy, Drew Barker, and coaches Michael Lennon and Laura Pokorzynski.
