AFL PREMIER LEAGUE

The BSSC Lions have finished their AFL Premier League competition for 2019 after being defeated by Emmanuel College in Warrnambool this week. Emmanuel kicked with a strong breeze in the first quarter and went to the break with a 13 point lead. The Lions had all the play early in the second quarter but could only register four points after hitting the post three times, while Emmanuel managed a couple of goals into the wind to lead by 21 points at ½ time. The third quarter was similar to the first, with Emmanuel outscoring us with the wind and going into the final quarter with a 34 point lead. Our boys applied a lot of pressure in the last quarter and outscored their opponents but eventually went down 9.4.58 to 3.9.27.

CROSS-COUNTRY – LODDON MALLEE REGION FINALS

All BSSC runners who competed in this week’s Loddon Mallee Region cross-country finals have progressed to the SSV State Finals early next term. Lauren White produced the outstanding individual result of the day in winning the female 16yr event. In the male 17-20yr event, Mitch O’Neill ran a great race to finish second. Kobe Henderson (6th), Tom Hawke (28th) and Eddy Neame (46th) combined with Mitch to win the teams’ event in that age group. In the female 17-20yr event, Zahli Drummond finished just 6 seconds behind the winner to finish in second place. Taine Lang ran very well to finish 8th in the male 16yr event. Congratulations to all competitors, who now have six weeks to prepare for the state finals on 18 July.
