The Bendigo Senior Secondary College (BSSC) Lions competed in the School Sport Victoria (SSV) Senior Boys Hockey State Championships on Friday 21st August at the Footscray Hockey Club.
The competition is a round robin format with the top team in each pool playing in the final. Matches were two twenty minute halves with three round games for each team.
The team came up against Nossal High School in the first match of the day. A couple of early goals against the Lions had the boys on the back foot. Once they settled in, they were able to find the back of the net and had plenty of the play.
The second game was played against Brunswick Secondary College who were a fast paced and well drilled team. The Lions matched the intensity and were in the match despite the score line.
Warrnambool HS were the last game of the day, the lads were out on their feet with plenty of hockey played for the day. The team finished without a score but wasn’t due to a lack of effort.
Thank you to Dan Gibbons for coaching and to Sharon McColl for coming on the day.
