The gala night of the year for BSSC Music students was held amidst the superb acoustics of the Ulumbarra Foyer last night.

The audience was treated to 17 outstanding performances—with instruments ranging from violin, cornet, piano, guitar, flute, drums, and of course, vocals.

Michael Lichnovsky was guest adjudicator for the evening and had the unenviable task of selecting a winner and three honourable mentions.

Musician of the Year was awarded to Year 12 student, Matilda Wilby, for her rendition of ‘Girl in 14G’ by Dick Scanlon and Jeanie Tesori. Matilda was praised for her magnificent control, excellent technique and dynamic range.

Nigella Reyes was the runner up—performing a beautiful rendition of ‘The Visitor’ by Sienna Spiro.

Honourable mentions went to Lucy Huang, Ryan McPartlane and Ari Holland.

Kobi Green, performing his own composition, took home the Audience Choice Award.

Every performer should be incredibly proud of their performances and we thank them for doing BSSC proud and connecting with the audience so beautifully.

We also thank BSSC’s dedicated and talented music teachers, Ash Bird and Jacquie Tolhurst, who work hard every year to foster students’ potential and allow countless opportunities for them to gain skills and experience.

On behalf of the BSSC community, we extend our thanks to award sponsor, Bendigo Rotary Club of Bendigo South, our accompanists, Melanie Cosier and John Matthews, and our adjudicator for the evening, Michael Lichnovsky.

What incredible talent!
