Congratulations to Year 12 students Ciaran Noble and Jemma Pearce who competed in the Lions Youth of the Year event at the Lions Club of Bendigo on Sunday.
Ciaran and Jemma, who are both members of the BSSC Student Leadership Team (Ciaran is SLT President) competed against four students from Girton Grammar for the right to represent the Lions Club of Bendigo at the Zone finals on March 27th.
The process began with each student being interviewed, in-depth, by a panel of Lions Club representatives, answering questions about their community involvement, social and political viewpoints, and life philosophies.
After a luncheon with the judges, the public speaking section of the competition saw each student deliver a two-minute improvised speech, then a five-minute speech on a chosen topic.
Ciaran, who was the overall winner, spoke on the topic ‘Unity Through Conversation’.
Lions Youth of the Year is designed to encourage, foster and develop leadership, personality, sportsmanship, public speaking and good citizenship.
