Former BSSC student, Jacob Nolan, achieved a breakthrough victory at the Wangaratta Gift meeting on Saturday.

Nolan won the gruelling 3200m duel in a time of 9:17.68.

He started off the 290m mark and beat a field that included Bendigo’s Adam Parker and Phil Noden.

For many years the Nolans have starred at Victorian Athletics League meets.

Jacob’s older brother, Josh, has racked up several victories over the years, and their father, Leigh was a top-class runner at various distances.

A busy winter for Jacob Nolan included starring in the Bendigo Athletics Club’s cross-country season.

He earned the Bendigo Bank-backed club champion award, the Liz and Mark Findlay-sponsored under-23 award, and was named best clubperson for the 2017 season.

Upcoming meets for Nolan and many other athletes are Geelong, and then the Bendigo International Madison on March 10 and 11 at the Tom Flood Sports Centre.
