BSSC fielded three teams in the 2018 Energy Breakthrough on the weekend, including ‘π cost’ in the Open category, ‘Gravity Doesn’t Get You High’ in the All-female category and ‘Mechanical Doping’ in the Hybrid class.
‘π cost’ was involved in an event-long battle with teams from Woodleigh School and Berwick Grammar that would see the lead change more than 20 times throughout the event. The team was able to crack the 1000km mark just before the end of the race and record the fastest lap of the event, finishing second overall.
‘Gravity’ recorded the fastest lap in its category and was the only all-female team to design and construct the vehicle… a worthy winner of the design and construction award.
Our Hybrid vehicle, ‘Mechanical Doping’, suffered a number of setbacks, requiring a complete engine change as well as a new steering assembly. It still finished third overall in its class.
Many thanks to all the students who participated and the staff that have helped along the way including; Mark Bannerman, John Cordedda, Peter Hamilton, Stuart Hamilton, David Jacobs, Catherine Trimnell and Tim White.
