This Thursday 19 April, we are very fortunate to have Maree Crabbe present to students, staff and parents on the impact pornography is having on the behaviours and experiences of young people.
This presentation forms an important part of the college’s Respectful Relationships curriculum, in particular Topic 8 – Positive gender relations (Pornography, gender and intimate relationships, and sexual etiquette).
Our students will attend a presentation by Maree throughout the school day, that will cover topics such as the effect pornography is having on sexual etiquette, the rates of violence in film and real life and how young people can be empowered to not consent to anything that makes them feel uncomfortable.
Maree will present to BSSC staff from 3.00 to 4.15 pm then, in the evening, give a very special presentation to parents. The college will welcome parents from 5.30pm for light refreshments prepared by our Hospitality students, entertainment provided by our Music students and tours of the college led by our Student Council representatives.
Maree will speak from 6.30 to 8.00 pm about what parents need to understand about pornography and its influence on young people’s sexual understandings and expectations as well as what parents can do to support their child’s healthy social and sexual development in an age of pornography.
If you wish to attend the parent/carer session on Thursday evening, please RSVP to parentpresentation@bssc.edu.au
