The wait is over and BSSC is celebrating with this year’s cohort of Year 12s as they receive their ATAR scores and can now turn their attention to their plans for 2019 and beyond.
BSSC Dux for 2018, Matt Coughlin, who achieved an ATAR of 99.55, said he had been expecting a slightly lower score, so was rapt with his result.
“I think the secret to my success was to keep on trying right to the end,” Matt said. “I had the motivation to keep going and keep pushing.” Matt hopes to study Physiotherapy next year at La Trobe University Bendigo.
BSSC Principal, Dale Pearce, said the results of the 2018 cohort were a good news story for the college.
“Our study scores over 40 have risen by 25% and we have doubled the number of ATARS over 90,” he said. “It’s very pleasing and a credit to the teaching teams and advisors.”
Emily Mannix, whose achieved an outstanding ATAR of 98.7, attributed her success to choosing subjects that she really loves.
“German became like a hobby and I might take up the opportunity to do part of my degree in Germany down the track.”
Emily hopes to study Pharmacy at Monash University—which she is now much more confident of being accepted into.
“It’s just great when you do better than you expected.”
Of course, behind these stories of outstanding academic success are a plethora of stories about students who have faced some incredible challenges and obstacles and whose achievements are known by only a handful of teachers and friends.
We also recognise that some students will be disappointed with their results. Remember, there are many pathways to your dream. Our Careers and Pathways team can help you be proactive and put yourself in the driver’s seat. They are here until Friday 21 December, so make an appointment to discuss your options.
