Four members of BSSC’s Student Leadership Team—Amelia Bailey, Mia Crimmins, Cameron Fields and Mathilda Stewart—will attend the prestigious McWhirter Conference on the 2nd and 3rd of July.

The conference—which is moving online this year for obvious reasons—provides a unique, and life-changing, educational opportunity for Year 11 and 12 students from both state and independent schools.

This year’s speakers include author Nick Cook, Economics professor Gigi Foster, Peter Gregory from the Institute of Public Affairs, and climate change expert Zoe Whitton. The conference will be chaired by Journalist and Politician, Maxine McKew.

Students form small syndicate groups to discuss what they’ve heard from each of the four guest speakers. These syndicate sessions, and the conference, culminate in a ‘question time’ plenary session with the students forming both the audience and the panel.

The McWhirter Foundation and its supporters host the conference with no cost to the students. The conference inspires young leaders to think about their own role in society and how they might get involved in shaping Australia’s future.
