Wow and wow! Each BSSC awards night is incredibly special, and this year was no different.
Students and staff who have done themselves—and the college—proud were honoured through a remarkable variety of subject-based, and special awards.
Tremendous academic achievements stood alongside awards for excellence in community-building and commitment that reached beyond personal achievement.
The five students nominated for Student of the Year and the Florence Anderson Award were all especially highly deserving of recognition, having extended themselves beyond the already formidable task of the VCE workload, to enrich the lives of their peers.
We congratulate them all and commend Amy Jefferis who is our 2025 Student of the Year, and Arden Thacker who was awarded the Florence Anderson Award.
BSSC Dux, Jack Dunstan, says it had not crossed his mind he would be BSSC’s dux—so he booked a flight to Japan for earlier today. His heartfelt speech was filled with gratitude for all who had supported him, and read to the Ulumbarra audience by Principal, Kylie Hand.
Jack’s advice for 2026 VCE students is to work hard (of course!) but also ensure they kept active in the passions that made them happy. In Jack’s case that was gym, swimming and piano.
“Always back yourselves,” he said, “even when the goals feel out of reach—because sometimes the best outcomes really are the ones you never expect. Trust me, booking a holiday on awards night is proof of that.”
Principal, Kylie Hand, told students they should be immensely proud of all they have achieved.
“I am incredibly impressed by every student here this evening, and confident you will make meaningful contributions in the years ahead. Continue to always give your best—for your college, your family, and, above all, for yourself.”
BSSC acknowledges the many individuals, families, organisations and businesses, who add more than recognition to these awards and give students additional rewards or opportunities.
BSSC is deeply grateful to these valued sponsors.
