Local Federal Member for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters, spoke with a small group of BSSC students today and her overarching message was: enrol to vote.

It is likely the proposed referendum to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Australian Constitution will occur later this year.

“It’s so important all Australians eligible to vote take part in this historic referendum—and to have your say, you have be registered with the Australian Electoral Commission,” she said.

Lisa fielded a stream of questions from students who grabbed this terrific opportunity to hear from their elected member and gain greater understanding about the process of constitutional change and the history of the proposed amendment to the Constitution.
