Brass Ensemble |

There has been a strong tradition of brass playing in Bendigo schools for some years now and this ensemble is
one outcome of this. All students in this ensemble are studying Music Performance at VCE level at Bendigo
Senior Secondary College. Their recent performances include playing at the Art gallery for the Chinese
Association as well as for college functions including the ANZAC ceremony and music department concerts.
A group of them recently performed at the schools Brass Masterclass for Barry Tuckwell OAM at the International
Brass Festival in Melbourne.
They are directed by Matthew Pankhurst.

Since Music Performance began as a VCE subject, guitar and electric bass students have featured at Bendigo Senior Secondary College.
The present ensemble consists of Emma Dobbie and Kahlan Young on electric guitars, Jacob LHuillier on rhythm guitar, Steve Fleiner on
classical guitar and James Padgett on electric bass.
Danza No.1 has been arranged for the group by their tutor John Snowdon.

An inspired young a Capella quartet, The Furthest Thing From Rock are a
Creative group of motivated students and musicians who
Arrange and perform many styles including
Popular music, jazz, gospel, modern classics and film tunes; that is, something for
Everyone.

As well as performing as soloists, all students studying Music Performance at VCE level also play in ensembles.
This years Stage Band have performed at formal college events and at the music concert.
Later in the year they are planning to record a selection of their work. Over the years many students playing in this ensemble
have gone on to study music at tertiary level. Many of this years performers plan to do the same.
Many of these young performers also play in local music ensembles brass and concert bands, the symphony orchestra and for local musical productions.
They are directed by Steve Vine.

Bendigo Senior Secondary College Dancers and Stage Band. |
All dancers performing here this evening are studying VET dance as part of their VCE at Bendigo Senior Secondary College.
This has been so successful that next year the college will also offer VCE Dance. This year this group have performed at the
Bendigo Art gallery and at the college concert. Members of this dance ensemble have been involved in local and national dancing eistedfodds.
Some are also involved in Contempo, the newly formed Bendigo based contemporary dance group.
Previous students have gone on to study dance at Deakin University, the Victorian College of the Arts,
West Australian Performing Arts and Victoria University.
They are taught by Megan Beckwith.who has also choreographed this dance.

This song was composed by Valmai Harris in memory of her grandfather Arthur E. Proud, a Bendigonian. He had served in World war 1
on the Western Front where he was wounded. He was sent to England to recouperate where he contracted the Spanish Flu.
Arthur Proud died 3 days after Peace was officially declared. He is buried in St. Johns churchyard , Sutton Veny in a small war cemetery.
His story and that of his family is told in the words to the song.
This very sensitive arrangement has been made especially for this ensemble by Mr John Matthews.

All students in this ensemble are studying VCE Music Performance at Bendigo Senior Secondary College.
This particular ensemble formed this year and have an interesting repertoire that covers a variety of musical styles.
The college has run wind ensembles for a number of years. We often have to cater for unconventioal combinations of instruments
this year for example we are blending treble recorder with orchestral woodwinds.
This group is directed by Mr John Matthews.
