Unit 3 Media



Areas of study



1.Narrative
On completion of this unit the student should be able to analyse the nature and function of production and story elements in fictional media texts and discuss how combinations of these elements structure the narrative to engage an audience. Examples of texts are Amelie, Phone Booth, Fatal Attraction & American Beauty

2. Media Production Skills
On completion of this unit the student should be able to use a range of technical equipment, applications and media processes to present ideas, achieve effects and explore aesthetic qualities in two production design plan specification areas appropriate to a media form. Examples are camera technique and lighting qualities.

3. Media Production Design
On completion of this unit the student should be able to prepare a media production design plan folio incorporating the specifications appropriate for the chosen media product. Common to all is a Statement of intention (brief), target audience statement and visuals like compositional sketches or storyboards.
