Art allows for the acquisition of a broad range of knowledge in both practical and theoretical areas. The focus of practical work is the development of technical skills, artistic awareness, conceptual and problem solving skills. The theoretical work is based on historical and cultural context, interpretation and analysis.

An introduction
This unit looks at Art of the past and present and how it relates to values of the societies in which it is created.

    Individual Ideas & Issues
This unit explores the identity of the artist and the development of artworks.

Investigation Interpretation
This unit focuses on personal art responses through a broad exploration and experimentation in one or more media.

Areas studied

  • Effective visual language development
  • Understanding of materials and techniques
  • Study of Art pre 1970 & post 1970
  • Contrast and comparison of two Art periods
    Alternatives and Outcomes
This unit focuses on meaning and messages of Art in addition to finished presentation of a folio of work.

Areas studied

  • Realisation of ideas
  • Personal artistic development
  • Study of one period of Art
  • Critically discuss commentaries on artworks
Assessment: Assessment in Art Unit 3/4 is school assessed coursework (20%), school assessed task (50%), and a
1 1/2 hour written examination in November (30%).
