1. The Italian Peninsula and the Renaissance.
2. Renaissance Florence.

The term ‘Renaissance’ is linked with the revival of classical learning and visual arts. The completion of Unit 2 People & Power will prepare students for this study.

    1. Social Life in Renaissance Italy.
2. Renaissance Venice.

Students must be prepared to share in discussions about findings as this plays an integral part in examining history and links the practical skills necessary to history.

Areas studied

  • Florentine or Venetian social life
  • Myth of Venice: harmony, liberty, wealth, location, imperial expansion, sacred legends, constitution & customs.
Assessment: Assessment in Renaissance Italy is a 2 hour written examination in November (50%), Unit 3/4 school assessed coursework (50%).

This unit analyses and explains the development and impact of a political crisis and conflict; patterns of social life and the factors which influenced changes. It analyses the relationship between the historical context and a cultural expression during 1900-1945.

  • Cultural expression - 1920's; Hollywood
    20th Century History: World
This unit analyses and discusses how postwar societies used ideologies to legitimise their world view; evaluates the impact of postwar challenges to society; the interaction between regional and domestic events and international growth.

Areas studied

  • Ideas and political power - The Cold War
  • Social movements - apartheid: feminism; music
  • Internationalism - Vietnam War; foreign policy
