This subject allows you to explore philosophical inquiry and delve into the deep philosophical issues about life.

An introduction to issues such as the nature of the universe and the existence of a divine, as well as ethical and moral dilemmas. You will learn to challenge established and personal ideas in written and verbal formats.

You will also be introduced to analysis of ideas in formal philosophical texts and pop culture commentaries.

   

Introduction to Philosophical Inquiry
What is knowledge?
What is real?
Do we have free will?

Evaluating Philosophical Thought in Relation to Practical Issues
Is there a God?
Do we exist?
Why should we have morals?

Philosophy 3-4 will build on concepts like God and knowledge by closely examining the works of other thinkers. You will learn skills of analysis and challenge the ideas found in divine and secular thought.

You will also produce formal pieces of writing critiquing the ideas and learn to develop your own arguments.

   

The Good Life
Ancient Greek and existential conceptions of how we should live are scrutinised.

Mind and Knowledge
The issue of Mind, Body and Soul is detailed and examined. Science, Knowledge and Dogma questions the authority of science.

Assessment: End of year examination contributes 50% to the final assessment, school assessed coursework 50%.
