Environmental Science provides students with a scientific approach to the investigation of the environment. The course focuses on changes in the environment and the use of indicators to monitor changes.
NOTE: The VCAA will introduce a changed study design for Units 3 and 4 Environmental Science for 2005. Details of this course are not available at the time of printing. The current Unit 1 and 2 Study Design will be sufficient preparation for the new Unit 3 and 4 course in 2005.

The Environment
This unit enables students to examine the environment and its components. We investigate how ecosystems function and the interactions that occur. The unit provides students with opportunities to consider the effects of natural and human-induced changes in ecosystems.

     Monitoring the Environment
This unit enables students to investigate the characteristics of environmental indicators and their use in monitoring programs. Students will define, collect and interpret environmental indicator data.

Ecological Issues: Energy and Biodiversity
This unit enables students to focus on two major ecological issues which provide challenges for the present and the future.

     Ecological Sustainability
This unit enables students to investigate pollution and its relationship to the health of humans and environment.
