Vocational Education Training (VET) in the vce and VCAL

What is VET/VCAL

VET programs allow students to combine the VCE or VCAL with Vocational Certificate courses. They enable students to undertake industry training at the same time as their VCE or VCAL. Units of Competence completed in a VET Certificate course count towards the VCE and VCAL and in most programs contribute a Unit 3/4 sequence towards completion of VCE/VCAL.

Key Features

VET Certificate programs provide direct pathways to TAFE, training and work. Most VET courses include structured workplace learning as a part of the training. Some VCE units support learning in VET programs and are thus recommended in the suggested programs on VET pages in this guide.

Incorporating VET into the VCE or VCAL enables students to:
  • Complete nationally recognised industry training as part of their VCE or VCAL
  • Obtain an Estimated National Tertiary Entrance Rank (ENTER) and keep tertiary options open in most cases
  • Undertake studies which include TAFE links
  • Undertake studies with a more vocational focus
  • Undertake work experience in their industry
VET courses or units advertised, which are not included on BSSC's scope of registration (see www.ntis.gov.au) will be provided by external training organisations including, but not limited to, Bendigo Regional Institute of TAFE, CVGT Employment and Training Specialists, and Continuing Education Bendigo. Most VET courses require students to undertake First Aid Training. Where students do not have the appropriate, current certificate, they must attend the First Aid course arranged by BSSC. The cost of this is included in the program fees on the booklist.

VET Certificates offered for 2007

* A Study score for enter calculation is available

These programs will operate subject to the following conditions:
  • Sufficient demand from students for each program.
  • BSSC being able to fund and resource the programs.
  • Students make a contribution towards tuition and materials fees.

Bendigo Senior Secondary College recognises AQF qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by other Registered Training Organisations.

Students should note that the majority of VET students will be responsible for purchasing specialised equipment, protective clothing and course materials. Costs in excess of $200 per year are common.
