A 'VCE Program' is a set of semester units undertaken over a minimum period of two years.

There is no upper limit to the number of years over which results may be accumulated for the award of the certificate.

This program is designed by you to meet your needs within the rules laid down by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA).

VCAA Requirements

You must do :

  • 4 units of English
You may choose any other units to make up your program, ensuring that your balance of subjects suits your
post - VCE pathway.

You must satisfactorily complete a minimum of 16 units including:

  • 3 units of English
  • 3 other unit 3/4 sequences (6 units)
The 16 units may include an unlimited number of units of Vocational Education and Training.

The English requirement remains unchanged.

Choosing a Program

  • Identify your interests, abilities and strengths and link these with appropriate work/career choices.
  • Read the information on Pathways to get some ideas about how to select a VCE program which leaves open your options for University and TAFE.
  • If you are interested in Vocational Education (VET) Programs, see Vocational Education Programs page.

For the purposes of otaining and ENTER, students must complete a 3,4 sequence from the English grouping and at least 3 other scored 3,4 sequences from this list pdf document.

Returning to Study

Students who are over 18 years of age and under 21 and who have been out of school for 12 months are eligible to complete VCE in one year, rather than the usual two years. Student Coordinators are happy to talk to any mature age student considering a return to study.
