1. Workplace Experience
This program has the following elements:
• four to five VCE units each semester, or a VCAL program,
• up to 40 days work placement per year (1 day per week)
All students must complete DE&T "Safe at Work" Occupational Health and Safety training prior to when
work placements can commence. A "Red Card" may also be required for building industry placements.
Students wishing to pursue careers in programs for which VET or part time new apprenticeships are not
available, may arrange weekly work placements in a range of industries or businesses to suit their interests.
This work placement does not provide credit towards the VCE, but can be an integral element of VCAL.
2. Information and Communication Technologies Pathways (ICT)
Aries PC Maintenance and Repair: Hardware and Operating Systems
The Aries PC Maintenance and Repair: Hardware and Operating Systems program is a two semester course in computer construction and maintenance providing instruction for the complete range of basic and advanced computer construction, maintenance theory and techniques. This hands-on course is supported by impressive multimedia curriculum materials developed by Aries Technology. It is suitable for all students with an interest in computing and is closely aligned with the requirements of the workplace. This course contributes towards a VCAL credit.
CISCO Certified Network Associate Course / VET Certificate IV in Computer Systems
Students can enrol in an internationally recognised Cisco Certified Network Academy course. This course is run over four units. The program includes computer networking fundamentals through to design, building and testing of actual networks.
Microsoft Official Curriculum Courses / VET Certificate III in Information Technology (Network Administration)
Microsoft Official Curriculum (MOC) courses are offered as part of the VET Certificate III in Information Technology (Network Administration) course. The MOC courses are designed to train students towards achieving an international industry recognised Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) qualification. Over the two year program students should complete a VET Certificate III in Information Technology (Network Administration), complete units 1 to 4 of the VCAA equivalent subject, achieve a study score for the unit 3&4 study, and prepare to pass one to two MCP exams.
3. Specialist Programs
Specialist programs enable students with an interest in a specific industry area to develop both skills and knowledge associated with that area by undertaking related VCE, VET and VCAL studies. In 2004 students undertook related studies in Information Technology (referred to as a themed VCAL Certificate) whilst gaining credits for the VCE and VET Certificates. Several themed specialist programs are currently being considered. The College will promote these additional programs when they become available for student selection.
