Students considering a Business Degree/career in Finance are strongly advised to complete units 1-4 Accounting. Recommendations: Students are strongly advised to complete unit 2 prior to unit 3-4 sequence.

This unit focuses on the accounting and financial operations of a sole proprietor trading business.

  • Inputting and processing of data into a single entry system

Double Entry for Trading Businesses
This unit focuses on accounting and financial issues of a small trading business operating as a sole proprietor.

  • Accounting principles and concepts
  • Double entry accounting both manually and using electronic software - MYOB
  • Accounting reports
  • Issues in accounting
    Planning, Control and Decision Making
This unit develops the role of accounting in providing information for management.

Areas studied

  • Perpetual inventory method using FIFO
  • Stock valuation
  • General journal entries
  • Subsidiary ledgers and schedules
  • Budgeting
  • Distinction between cash and profit
Assessment: Assessment in Accounting is a 1 1/2 hour written examination in June (33%), Unit 3&4 school assessed course work (34%) and a 1 1/2 hour written examination in November (33%)
