Apprenticeships and Traineeships

Golden City Sheetmetal - Engineering Apprentice
Golden City Sheet Metal are seeking a 1st Year Metal Fabrication Apprentice to commence work ASAP.
Applicants would ideally have experience in welding and folding metal, although this is not essential. Completing VET Engineering or a Pre Apprenticeship would be an advantage.
The employer is looking for applicants who have ideally completed a minimum of Yr 11.

Certificate III in Engineering/Steel Fabrication
Epsom Steel are looking for an apprentice to complete Certificate III in Engineering to work in steel fabrication and engineering.
They are seeking an applicant who has ideally completed Yr 12 and is keen to start a career in steel fabrication. They would like someone who has a strong interest in metals and prefer an applicant who has completed VET Engineering or an Engineering Pre Apprenticeship but will consider anyone who has some metal or trade experience or skills.. Applicants with their licence (either Learners or P Plates) are also preferred but this is not essential.

They are seeking an Apprentice Patternmaker - this position involves CAD of the moulds used to produce the steel products. Ideally the applicant will have completed Yr 12 and be interested in a career in metallurgy.

Photomapping Services – Full time vacancies
Photomapping Services is a Victorian based company with offices in Melbourne and Bendigo. We provide Lidar, Aerial photography and GeoSpatial data services across Australia with 50 staff, 17 are based in Bendigo regional office. The Bendigo office uses digital stereo aerial photography to capture 3D digital geographic features and processes these into compliant Geographic Information Systems (GIS) datasets, also update existing datasets using satellite imagery among other geospatial tasks.
We are keen to employ several new full time junior staff in our Bendigo Office, interested in a rewarding career producing digital maps. Whilst we will provide the required training, the candidates are expected to have the following attributes:
- Be prepared for a long term career - this is NOT A GAP YEAR OPPORTUNITY
- Have computer skills
- Be keen and enthusiastic to learn new skills in a computer graphics and technical office environment
- Be capable of absorbing and retaining instructions
- Be able to work closely with and as a member of a small team
- Have good communication skills, and
- Not be colour blind.
Desirable attributes:
- Be able to see stereo 3D,
- Have good hand eye coordination skills,
- Have an interest in Mapping or Geography.

Keech Castings Australia based in Bendigo Victoria, requires the services of a Laboratory Technician in order to perform the following duties:
- Prepare Micro structure samples and document graphs.
- Report test results and deviations.
- Conduct routine/sample checks for the quality of steel scrap.
- Monitor the quality of input material used in the making of steel.
- Check the chemical composition / micro of goods returned from customers.
- Provide results to Metallurgist and Production Team as required.
- Monitor production process variables.
- Respond to daily process deviations.
- Progress test bars ready for testing.
- Document and distribute test results.
- Maintain Laboratory records.
- Provide assistance with failure analysis investigations.
- Assist with Research and Development activities.
- Maintain a high standard of housekeeping within the laboratory and testing areas.
If required, training will be provided to the successful applicant appointed to the role.

A Licenced Restaurant/Café is looking for exceptional front of house/waiting staff to join the team.
You should have coffee or food experience and hospitality skills and be able to work nights and weekends. A RSA would be preferable or be willing to obtain. Computer experience is also preferred.

Victorian Training Group - Childcare
The Victorian Training Group (VTG) will be conducting a classroom based Certificate III in Children's Services from February 2012. Based in Central Bendigo the course will run 3 days per week for 6 months and include 210 hours of practical placement in a childcare center. Victoria is currently experiencing a massive shortage in childcare workers and the Cert. III course is the ideal way to kickstart your career.

We suggest visiting the following websites to search for vacancies. There are many others but these are the main ones that the MIPS staff check on a regular or daily basis - and you should too.
Be aware that it is vital to check if the vacancy is still available, don't assume that because you can view it that it is still open. If they are more than a few days old, they may be filled already.. Contact the employer or agency before submitting an application or make sure you know when the vacancy is closing.

Resumes
there are many examples of resumes that are available - you could do a Google or have a look at resume worksheet. Other examples are JobJuice Resume Builder and CVGT Resume builder and My Future and the JobSearch resources.
Services in the Pathways office
There are a variety of people and services to assist you. In the near future we will have a Resume resource folder for students to access, as well as staff from Your Employment Solutions (YES), The Factory and CVGT to assist. Their availability will be advertised. You can also visit the MIPs (Managed Individual Pathways) page for more information.
Online recruting
Many large companies eg McDonalds, Safeway/Woolworths and Coles Myer use online systems to recruit potential employees. This removes the need for them to collect hard copy resumes and you can apply for jobs at other companies. These systems also may have a search engine to look for jobs - Coles Myer and Safeway . There is a new website you may have seen on TV called Jobs.com.au - visit Axel to find out more about the services offered.
Strategies for work
Make sure that you use resources like newspapers, bulletin boards at your local supermarket/retailers, friends, teachers and neighbours. You can also approach the places you might like to work and see if they are hiring. You can do this by visiting them in person, making a phone call to the manager or perhaps writing to them. Doing Work Experience can be a way of experiencing work and seeing if the job is for you.
Issues with your workplace?
If you experience problems or issues with your employer, there are services and people to help you. Workplace Authority will give you information on award rates and conditions for all types of jobs - call 1300 363 264. Work Safe Victoria can help with issues relating to health and safety in the workplace - call 1800 136 089 for information or 13 23 60 to report serious workplace emergencies. Job Watch is a Victorian community legal centre specialising in employment law - you can call them on 1800 331 617. The Victorian Government has set up the Workplace Rights Advocate to protect young workers - call 1300 882 648.
