Special Entry for 2012
Special Entry Access Schemes (SEAS):
SEAS is the centralised application program for special entry schemes available at participating tertiary institutions in Victoria. The SEAS booklet lists all the institutions, their special entry schemes, criteria for applying to those schemes and application instructions. Copies of the booklet are available
Special Entry Schemes are designed to assist people to accessing university and TAFE courses. They may require personal information and a recommendation from the school and employers or medical staff. It is worth investigating these schemes as they can have a significant effect on your chance of accessing a course.
Some changes have occurred to the SEAS categories, you are encouraged to check the information contained in the links below to check which criteria you may be eligible for. All BSSC students are eligible for Category 1 (formerly students were eligible for “Rural and Isolated” category) under the Living or school postcode. Information below is found on the VTAC website http://www.vtac.edu.au/seas-home.html
VTAC SEAS Categories -There are six categories within SEAS. Not all institutions recognise all categories:
* Category 1 provides for several institutional access and equity schemes. By submitting this category you are giving permission for the following information to be passed onto institutions to which you have applied:
- Age—will generally be used by institutions that recognise and operate mature age entry schemes
- Recognition as an Indigenous Australia
- Living or school postcode—to identify applicants from a rural or isolated area or applicants who will need to move to undertake tertiary study
- Under-represented school—to identify if you attend one of various under-represented schools identified by institutions under this category – also refer to Category 6 if you are applying to La Trobe University and/or RMIT University.
- Gender—to identify if you are applying for a course in a male or female under-represented discipline
Some institutions give special consideration for current year 12 students who have experienced short term disadvantage in years 11 and/or 12 which have affected their year 12 results and ATAR (previously ENTER). Please refer to the category descriptions. (This information is taken directly from the VTAC website.)
All BSSC students are eligible for Category 1 - Living or school post code.
VTAC have a program called SEAS. SEAS is the umbrella program for all special entry schemes conducted by participating VTAC institutions. There are two distinct and separate schemes:
- Access and Equity (including scholarships)
- Year 12 Special Consideration
VTAC has published a Special Entry Access Schemes (SEAS) booklet detailing for Yr 12 students all access schemes offered by participating VTAC institutions. Most institutions operate schemes to address issues of access and equity for undergraduate courses and also to address issues relating to chronic circumstances that may exist for students. Some may have been unable to reach their full potential or to access the course of their choice because of life circumstances (eg socio-economic background, rurality, disability etc). These students can apply through the SEAS access and equity schemes. Monash, Deakin, RMIT and Uni of Melb also use this application to determine the award of access scholarships so students intending to study at these institutions are strongly encouraged to use the SEAS. All BSSC students can use the category 7 of SEAS as we are an under-represented school for La Trobe University. Students who have experienced circumstances which have had an adverse impact on their final year of schooling can apply through the SEAS Special Yr 12 consideration category. Eligibility is described in the booklet.
Applications are online through My Info - they open on the 1st of August 2011 and close on Tuesday 11 October 2011 (first Tuesday of Term 4). Any student who feels they may be eligible can see a member of the Careers team or their Student Coordinator. A VTAC application must be made before the SEAS process.
Other special entry programs:

Examples are: Peer mentoring/support programs, Red Cross Door Knock Appeal, Cancer Council: Relay for Life, aged care facilities, music groups etc.

CHARLES STURT P.R.E.P. SCHEME – application forms for this scheme are now found online. Careers does have limited application forms, or you can download a copy from the website.
PREP stands for Principal’s Report Entry Program and is designed to attract academically talented students from the High Schools in non-metropolitan areas in NSW, ACT and Victoria.
To be guaranteed an offer under PREP, a student must include that course as a preference on their UAC application form and to receive an Early Round offer that preference must be the highest preference the student has nominated.
A successful PREP application guarantees selected students an offer to their preferred course at CSU prior to the mainstream selection system, which is based on the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR). This means you could be made an offer before your Year 12 results are known.
Charles Sturt University offers almost 100 courses to undergraduate students, however some courses are excluded from PREP – see the website for these courses.
PREP is offered to non-metropolitan schools in Victoria, NSW and ACT and to students who are currently in High School and taking TAFE subjects as part of their studies that may make them ineligible for an ATAR.
See Mark in Careers for more information on this fantastic scheme.
UNIVERSITY OF BALLARAT– REEP scheme Any students considering study at University of Ballarat should come to Careers to apply through the REEP scheme to assist regional students to gain entry to courses. Forms from Careers or click the link – not part of SEAS.
UNIVERISTY OF BALLARAT

Selection will be made on academic merit, contribution to the school, and Community Service.
Application templates available from Careers staff and applications must be returned by 22 nd October.
The Principal will then nominate based on applications.
