Aims of the Tutor Program

The aims and objectives of the Tutor Program
are as follows:
- To value each student as a mature individual and promote
them to reach their personal and academic potential at
the college.
- To provide clear and effective communication with all
students and their parents/guardians.
- To effectively achieve the transition of all students
into the college, to the next year level and to post-Bendigo
Senior Secondary College destinations.
- To provide quality care for all students (personal welfare).
- To effectively monitor the attendance of all students
and to promote full attendance.
- To effectively monitor the academic progress of all
students and to promote the ideal of all students achieving
their personal best.
- To act as an advocate for students:
- To have an impact on students self-concept, learning
and behaviour through tutor attitudes and behaviours
(empathy, acceptance, warmth and genuineness).
- To provide a helping relationship which has a positive
effect on students at risk.
- To provide order and direction for students.
- To establish clear academic goals and provide strong
academic support.
- To help establish a sense of connectedness and a
safe environment.
- To help the student prepare for employment.
- To provide a positive adult-student relationship
as a key protective behaviour.
- To provide information about college support structures
for students.
