Jennifer Hall is the Learning and Teaching Resources Coordinator at Bendigo Senior Secondary College, which combines the role of Library Coordinator and Open Learning Team Coordinator.

She also leads the Presentation Team which hosts National and International visitors to the college and provides outstanding opportunity for knowledge sharing.

She has experience in developing programs across all KLAs throughout primary, middle and senior years. As a result of her work with teachers and teacher librarians, Jennifer has become increasingly interested in the development of online curriculum. She promotes a dynamic and exciting learning environment which incorporates ICT, information literacy, thinking curriculum and assessment tools and strategies in the classroom to improve student learning and inspire teacher professional development.

She is a strong advocate for the teaching role of teacher librarians and draws on her experiences to develop systematic and collaborative approaches to information and research skill acquisition for students. Jennifer has been investigating and developing effective practices to support teachers as they acquire and extend their skills and knowledge to bring about changes in classroom practices. In 2004 she was awarded a research fellowship from SLAV to investigate the, “How effectively our schools are integrating inquiry learning and e-learning into classroom practice to support student learning” . She is currently involved in an evidence based action research project with a number of schools across Victoria.

Most recently she has been involved in coordinating and compiling the learning and teaching resource, Researching Together ; Engaging Minds with the library team and School Library Association of Victoria (SLAV) as a basis for the development of an Information Literacy Program at BSSC for Years 11 and 12 and associated feeder schools for Years 7 - 10. This resource is being marketed and distributed by the School Library Association of Victoria and supports the Principles of Learning and Teaching (PoLT). In 2004 she was the inaugural winner of the SLAV Research Fellowship in her role as Project Director for the Central Victorian Evidence Based Practice Research Project

Jennifer is also a member of the PD committee for School Libraries of Victoria (SLAV) and is on the SLAV council as the Bendigo delegate.

Researching Together CD

Researching Together : engaging minds provides valuable support for all library professionals. Designed to be used by collaborative teams of teachers and teacher-librarians, this learning and teaching resource will enhance learning in all sectors of education and provide a variety of practical tools. These include:
  • Research formats in template form, supplied in html, Word and PowerPoint to provide the scaffolding to customise your own school’s online curriculum design and delivery hosted by your school Intranet
  • Online resources and information to enhance your knowledge of higher order thinking skills, questioning techniques and inquiry based learning to support your student’s learning styles and encourage strategies to develop independent learners
  • Library Essentials provides samples of materials, including ready to use templates that can be used to enhance your library program. Online and print resources will support information literacy and encourage the strategic use of ICT to promote a knowledge sharing community where students are connected to real life experiences.
  • In Evidence you will learn about evidence based practices to challenge and support student thinking and skill application. Also included is the importance of documenting and reporting your progress as a learning team

La Trobe University - Masters by Research

The aim of my research is to investigate the most effective instructional design elements teachers can use to create online learning assessment tasks to bring about improved student outcomes. It will measure how students’ knowledge of their curriculum topic progresses throughout the research process, tracking engagement and motivation alignment with interest and information seeking skills.

Central Victoria Action Research Project Director

The North Central Action Research Project involves a number of schools across Victoria. Each teacher librarian is working with a classroom teacher to plan, teach and evaluate a unit of work and provide evidence to demonstrate the learning that has taken place. Presentation of the units of work will be made in February 2007 and all units of work will be published by SLAV in April 2007.
