Ref. http://www.dar.csiro.au/ozone/default.htm Ozone is both formed and destroyed by the sun's radiation. Certain chemicals also destroy it. Since the late 1970s, scientists have become aware that the ozone layer has changed. The amount of the gas has been dropping which means that more of the harmful UV radiation is reaching the Earth's surface. Most of the damage is being done by chemicals called CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons) and halons.
