Methane

  STRUCTURE
  OCCURENCE Methane is released by cows, sheep and other ruminant animals. The gas is also produced during forest fires, land-fills, coal mines, natural gas exploration and distribution and from wetlands.
  PROPERTIES Methane is a greenhouse gas that contributes to the greenhouse effect. It is a colourless gas that is insoluble in water. Methane is highly flammable; it will burn in the presence of oxygen:

CH4 (g) + O2 (g) -> CO2 (g) + 2H2O (g)

  USES Methane is used as a fuel
