Blueprint for Government Schools

In 2003 the Minister of Education, Lynne Kosky, launched the Blueprint for Government Schools, a document which outlines future directions for education in the government school sytstem.

Bendigo Senior Secondary College delivers a range of professional development programs that can support schools in implementing the Flagship Strategies that make up the Blueprint.

Flagship Strategy 1: Student Learning

Professional Development Programs that provide a focus on "principles of learning and teaching" are facilitated at Bendigo Senior Secondary College. This is further supported by the College's commitment to sharing "best practice" through their website. This is achieved through the Colleges Thinking Oriented Curriculum webpage, Hotlists to WebQuests webpage and ICT samples webpage.

Bendigo Senior Secondary College have accredited trainers for the following programs:

  • de Bono's 6 Thinking Hats
  • de Bono's DATT (Direct Attention Thinking Tools)
  • www.web-and-flow.com interactive site for developing online materials.

Bendigo Senior Secondary College has access to accredited trainers in Myers Briggs.

Flagship Strategy 4: Performance and Development Culture

Bendigo Senior Secondary College has a history of being an educational leader in the development of a Performance and Development Culture. Through the use of data collection (group surveys, unit surveys, VCE results, 360o feedback) and participation in Professional Learning Teams staff participate in a comprehensive review program.

Flagship Strategy 5: Teacher Professional Development

Bendigo Senior Secondary College has an extensive internal professional development program to support its staff. Elements of this program include facilitation of professional development by appointed PD Coaches, Travel Scholarships, Staff Meetings with a PD focus, Professional Learning Teams and invited Consultants throughout the year. November/December of each year sees a comprehensive program being offered to staff to support ongoing teacher learning.

In addition, many staff at Bendigo Senior Secondary College are invited to present at a wide range of Subject Association Conferences each year to share their knowledge and experience.

As a member of the NAVCON Consortium, Bendigo Senior Secondary College has played a leading role in the delivery of a range of programs to suit the needs of schools. Each year a number of staff present at national and international conferences.
