In November 2001, and February 2002, teachers from across Victoria participated in a four day professsional development program on WebQuests. This program was aimed at providing teachers involved with the Asia Education Foundation with the knowledge and skills necessary to develop online learning activities for use in the classroom.

This professional development program was facilitated by Tom March ozline.com.

WebQuests are one of a range of web based activities that involve the development of student centred problem solving activities. Students work collaboratively on a real life task taking on real life simulation roles. They use the Internet as one of many resources, and then share what they have learned with others.

According to Tom March, web based learning is best developed in stages. Build on what you develop as you learn how to use the net. Start with a Hotlist of links then build a Knowledge Hunt of facts and figures. Interest your students with a topic introductory activity called a Subject Sampler. A Concept Builder will prompt learners to develop concepts about sophisticated ideas and use an Insight Reflector when you want to encourage the open-ended personal reflection that shows evidence of a mind at work. When you are ready to make the most of your web based learning activities use or design a WebQuest .

Participants were taken through the interactive site of and developed a range of online curriculum activities. These activities can be found at victorian materials

To develop a detailed understanding of the formats provided by web-and-flow read the article by Tom March Working the Web for Education. A brief outline of each format and suggestions on how they can be implemented in the classroom can be found here.

In line with the Victorian Curriculum Standards Framework II and the Stages of Schooling these resources have been categorised under Early Years, Middle Years and Later Years.

Additional online activities which address studies of Asia perspectives can be found at other sites
