AUSTRALIAN INFORMATICS COMPETITION
Congratulations to he following students who participated in the Australian Informatics Competition
Year 12 Bryn Weightman, Edwin Spark, Matthew Comptston, Jordan Parker Year 11 Benjamin Graham, DArcy Morrison, Callum Muir, Andrew Cann, Kelsey Fyffe and Joshua Chittick
Overall, our students performed well above state averages. There was a fabulous result for Year 11 student Benjamin Graham, who was in the top 5%.
Our Year 12s were most impressive with Bryn Weightman coming in the top 10% and Edwin Spark not far behind. Matthew Comptston also performed well,
coming in the top 20%.
Sports Achievements
Stef COLA - Selected in VSSSA Soccer u20 girls team to compete in the National Football (Soccer) championships Mandurah WA in August.
Shelly Flood - after returning from representing the Australian Mountain Biking team in Europe at the Junior World Championships Shelly
was presented with her Pierre De Coubertin award at the Olymic Council Ceremony in Ballarat
Top Class Sound concert
Edwin Spark and Olivia Turnbull both had their compositions accepted and performed in the Top Class Sound concert which was held on
Friday March 6th this year in the Iwaki auditorium.
Olivia Turnbulls composition Memories and Reflections then went through to the next level to be performed in the Top Acts concert
on Friday May 22nd in Hamer Hall. This was written for string quartet and was performed by
Olivia Turnbull (violin), Josie Graham (cello year 12 2007) and two other students.
Edwin Spark (Year 12) achieved a study score of 49 in Music Styles last year.
Wannik Student Scholarship
Josh Daffy of Year 11 has won a $5000 Wannick Student Scholarship to assist with his studies over the next two years.
2009 National Youth Science Forum in Canberra
Rachel Drummond of Year 12 was a participant in the 2009 National Youth Science Forum in Canberra. The forum brings together talented and
passionate Science students from across Australia and allows participants to develop their ability in their chosen scientific field.
2009 National Mathematics Summer School in Canberra
Edwin Spark was privileged to be able to attend the 2009 National Mathematics Summer School in Canberra in January. This was an opportunity for some of
Australias brightest young mathematical minds to gather and extend their thinking.
Youth Science Ambassadors Program
Melissa Mace of Year 12 was selected to attend the 2009 Youth Science Ambassadors Program, which comprised 52 people from all over the world who
shared their knowledge and gained new experiences in Science. The highlight of Melissas experience was a flight over the Antarctic and the South Pole itself.

DEFENCE TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIPS
Congratulations to Aaron Marshall, Lachlan Sens and Alexander Culvenor, who have each won a valuable 2009
Defence Technical Scholarship.
These scholarships, worth $2000 to Year 11 students and $3000 to Year 12 students, provide support to students who may wish to pursue a
technical trade career after completing Year 12.
