President Australian Conservation Foundation, former member of Australia group Midnight Oil

Peter Garrett is widely known as a passionate advocate and essayist on a range of contemporay Australian and global issues.

He was vocalist, co-lyricist, and dynamic frontman for Midnight Oil for 26 groundbreaking years. During that time the band was known for their consistently cathartic, often extraordinary, live preformances.

From 1989 to 1993 Peter Garrett served as president of Australia's peak environment organisation the Australian Conservation Foundation. Significant results for many threatened area of the Australian environment including Coronation Hill in Kakadu, Shoalwater Bat in Queensland, the Queensland Wet Tropics rainforest and Jervis Bay in New South Wales were achieved during this time.

In 1993 he joined the International Board of Greenpeace fitting those responsibilities into Midnight Oil's regular global touring and recording schedule.

In 1998 he again, accepted the presidency of the Australian Conservation Foundation.

In December 2002 Peter announced his resignation from Midnight Oil with the intention of pursuing his environmental and social concerns fulltime.
