90TH REUNION

September 5 -7 1997

The Present - linking the Past with the Future

The opening of the refurbished buildings and the Learning Technology facilities on Friday 5th by the Honourable Phil Gude, Minister for Education, celebrated the achievements of the 1990s. There was recognition that the successes of the present are built on the reputations of past generations.

Approximately 1500 people attended the Reunion over the weekend. Highlights included:
  • one thousand people singing the school songs at the official opening of the Reunion
  • the launch of "Old Gold Bendigo Inc.", the ex-students association
  • the cutting of the cake by the three oldest ex-students: Cora Murray (99), Reg Paynter (96) and Dr. Eugene Sandner (91)
  • four hundred people enjoying the Dinner held in the college gymnasium on the Saturday night
  • two hundred people worshipping at the church service held in the James King Hall on the Sunday morning
  • the gathering of Waverley Essay Winners
(The earliest winner in attendance was Professor Colin Horne, winner in 1928)
  • the planting of a commemorative tree by Lola Miller, A.M., B.E.M.
  • an address by Janette Bomford, author of the school's history, highlighting some significant people and events in the history of the school
  • the unveiling of Honour Boards for
    Headmasters & Principals
College Council Presidents, formerly Advisory Councils
    College Dux
Old Gold Patrons and Life members
  • nearly everyone going on a tour of the college, conducted by present staff and students, and marvelling at the present facilities
  • everyone reminiscing excitedly about former times and meeting up with some of their peers whom they had not seen for decades.
QUI PATITUR VINCIT
Whoever perseveres conquers.
