Tracy is the Student Wellbeing Coordinator of BSSC’s much-appreciated Wellbeing Team. We asked her about her role at BSSC—and about life beyond the college…
What do you love the most about the work you do?
I enjoy interacting with people, hearing their stories and assisting them along their journey. I really love what I would describe as ‘light bulb moments’. When you work with someone around a concept or idea, and then their eyes grow large and round as they have a moment of realisation. These moments have kept me going for more than twenty years in health care.
What is your number one wellbeing tip?
Have a laugh at least once a day. Even if this is forced. We know that laughter is contagious. Feel good hormones are released and this makes your brain happy. If it’s an especially good belly laugh, you also get a small cardiovascular workout. There is a reason why childrens’ hospitals around the world have clown doctors. The proof from the research is in faster recovery rate, lower anxiety and less pain. Try laughing more.
What is your favourite thing to do when you’re not working?
Walking around barefoot!
What’s your favourite music/film/interest?
Movie- Bicentennial Man (1999) Imperfections make us individuals, that’s what makes us unique.
Music- eclectic tastes. I love most music from the 80s and I do enjoy a musical.
Interests- exploring the world and learning.
What’s your favourite food?
Soup. Any soup is good, summer or winter. Current favourite would be the Vietnamese Pho.
Who do you admire? Why?
Anh Do
He is a man of many amazing talents. He demonstrates that with hard work, determination and loving support, you can still live the best life possible. I recommend you read his autobiography. I just wish I could paint like him.
