BSSC student, Abby-Lee Scott, recently completed a week of Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) with BLR Provincial Construction.
Currently in Year 11, Abbey is interested in a career in Painting & Decorating and Bendigo’s BLR Provincial Construction provided her with many ‘hands on’ opportunities to apply her skills to a large construction project: a new build commercial site in Golden Square.
Abby speaks positively about all aspects of the job. This included preparation of the work area—taping, sanding, protecting surfaces—and learning about brushes, using ladders, and using other technical equipment. Adhering to OHS standards was an important part of her experience.
Abby felt well supported and feels very positive about her placement.
“It’s been great. I’ve enjoyed the work, and everyone onsite has been really supportive,” Abby said. “This is definitely what I can see myself doing as far as my career goes.”
