BSSC was abuzz with nervous excitement on Wednesday as new students arrived for their orientation to BSSC. During their first assembly, students were entertained by student band Gravy Boat’s exciting performance of “White Room”.
Students expressed excitement, and a little anxiety at starting senior studies at BSSC. Reese McHeyzer-Bacchin and Caitlin Hicks were also recovering from the previous night’s Weeroona College Formal.
“I am nervous, but excited,” Reese said. “It’s pretty good to be here and I am happy to see old friends,” Caitlin added.
Eaglehawk SC student, Caleb Morrison-Armstrong said he was feeling fine, and was looking forward to combining his interest in sport and photography into his VCE program.
After the welcome assembly in Ulumbarra, new studen
s received their timetable and had a “Race around BSSC” to orient them to the layout and key areas of the college. Throughout the day they also connected their electronic devices to the college network, learned about ICT safety and participated in a study skills session. A free BBQ lunch was provided for all new students and staff.
On Thursday, our new Year 11s were joined by returning students as Step Up classes commenced. This week-long program provides an opportunity for student to meet their teachers, mix with classmates, and experience the subjects in their 2017 program.
Those who miss classes during Step Up week, and notify the college of their absence or inability to attend, will be sent a letter with instructions on how to access materials provided during Step Up. All students will need these in order to complete preparatory work for 2017’s classes.
The materials will be made available on BSSC’s online portal Compass.
Students who don’t notify the college of their absence will need to contact the college to make arrangements to access this material.
Make sure courses are finalised by Friday 2 December – the last of the course change days. BSSC’s booklist must be submitted by Tuesday 9 December to avoid the late processing fee. Visit www.edplus.com.au to access the book list for your course.
